Overview

In order to ensure customers receive cost reflective prices and to promote competition in the retail market, the Regulatory Authorities regulate annual tariffs, revenues and electricity purchasing strategies of NIE ES in the North and ESB CS in the South, and also issues Supply Licenses to new entrant electricity suppliers wishing to compete in the retail electricity market.

The Regulatory Authorities hold regular meetings with market participants to ensure that the best possible conditions are in place to promote competition and that all suppliers are treated equally.

The Regulatory Authorities continue to work together on joint projects to help facilitate greater transparency, competition and cost reflectivity in the retail market for electricity in Ireland.
