In establishing the CAG project, the Regulatory Authorities aim to develop a single approach to security of supply in Ireland and Northern Ireland. As part of the Security of Supply workstream, the Regulatory Authorities seek to progress a common approach to system planning and development. Key aspects of the Planning and Development Framework are the production of a common security of supply standard and the publication of an annual Joint Capacity Statement.
The production of annual Joint Capacity Statement will provide the estimate of the adequacy of the transmission network to meet demand growth in both Ireland and Northern Ireland. In previous years, an annual Pressure Report prepared by the Utility Regulator, and an annual Gas Capacity Statement, prepared by the Commission for Energy Regulation, presented separate gas supply and demand scenarios for the transmission systems of Northern Ireland and Ireland respectively. The production of a Joint Capacity Statement will facilitate the optimum development and operation of the system, as well as the common Security of Supply Standard.
