Single Approach to Gas Quality Overview
This workstream focuses on implementing a harmonised approach to gas quality in Northern Ireland and Ireland so as to enable safe physical flow of gas between the two jurisdictions. While natural gas supplied in Ireland and Northern Ireland are currently compatible, future developments may mean that gas of differing quality specifications may enter the transmission system in Ireland. In this scenario, the continued use of different gas quality specifications in the two jurisdictions would create significant difficulties in the operation of the networks as one, given the potential for incompatibility between gas either side of the border.
